A Life for a Life

Familiar
Tùzǐ

After being saved by the Witch and bound to the bunny he saved at the cost of his own life, Haneul's hair now naturally grows as black on the top and white underneath. If he so chooses to show his ears and tail, they are both black without any white on them.It is rare that the familiar shows his half changed form or even his fully changed form. Though in times of extreme stress or emotion Haneul does not always get a choice in whether he changes or not.

Life as a Tùzǐ

Personality Traits

(-) stubborn, bratty, willful, opinionated, aggressive, and destructive(+) smart, social, affectionate
loving, and perceptive

Weaknesses / Powers

(-) they are not fighters and are weak to predators and black-magic(+) fast, nimble and intelligent ; able to switch between their human form, half form, and familiar form

When a Tùzǐ is stressed out or in a state of constant fear, they will shred things around them. Mostly books and papers, but clothes and blankets, too. It is a natural inclination to make nests from the messes to calm themselves down. As a prey-animal, it can be, at times, easy to put them in a state of panic and unease. Interrupting their burst of anxiety can and most likely will involve injury.

Most Tùzǐ are on the smaller side. They have to eat small meals often to keep their high-energy bodies going—as a crepuscular species, they are active at dawn and dusk most often. Tùzǐ can be found eating, napping, or lounging during other parts of the day, prone to laziness.

Small and easily killed, a Tùzǐ will respond to threats with wild bursts of violence. They will writhe, leap and bite viciously to escape someone holding them against their will. Their sharp little teeth can do surprising damage to someone unsuspecting.
They use their instincts and gut to save themselves from dangerous people and situations. A Tùzǐ always has an escape route.

The Boy Before the Bun

Trigger Warnings: Breeding Centers, Abandonment, and BullyingIt all started at a breeding center on April 26th, 2001. The cries from the pains of labor could be heard even outside the door of the delivery room. Five hours of active labor and out came a human baby boy. The mother forced to have the baby chooses to keep her head turned, her eyes closed. She does not want anything to do with the human baby that came out of her womb. The nurses take the poor screaming baby away to be cleaned up and checked before he makes his way to the new Christian Orphanage where he'll be instilled with the fear of not only God, but Masters too.The babe was given the name "Haneul" heavenly sky, appropriate for the God fearing boy he is to become. The guardians of the orphanage made sure that along with the training the unfortunate humans were forced to partake in, they also had for two hours a day made for bible study. Haneul enjoys the stories about angels helping lead humans towards a better life. God is who scares him. God is the man who casts plagues, locusts, and kills small children for other's misbehavior. Haneul doesn't want to defy God, he wants to be a good boy, he wants to be helped, to be saved. He wants to go to heaven when his servanthood is up. He's determined to do good, to be good. To enter heaven one day.Being the good boy has its hardships. Servants are never to be seen or heard. They do not argue, they do not fight back, they take what is given to them and appreciate it, no matter what it might be. Haneul often finds himself receiving treatment he doesn't think he deserves, but takes anyway. Every time they are taken to the playground and adult eyes glance away, Haneul is dragged out from wherever he is sitting and beaten. He learned quickly to curl up and place his arms over his head to protect it. The hitting and kicking hurt slightly less when curled up into a ball. He's small, he's quiet, he never fights back, he was the perfect target to bully and get away with it. Not once did Haneul snitch.Things got a little better when a new, slightly older child started to sit next to him in the sandbox. Bullies would not dare come near him when this boy was next to him. He's not sure why the bullies left him alone, the boy was only slightly taller than him, perhaps a few years older, but his eyes were always gentle and kind. He never forced Haneul to talk and would play with him when no one else would. His life was significantly better when the other was around and soon he looked forward to going to the playground. That was until the boy suddenly stopped coming to the playground. The other just seemed to disappear, he wasn't the only one who noticed the other's absence. Soon Haneul was getting pulled into the shadows once more to become a punching bag for older kids who just beat him up because they can. Just because they're big and he's small, because he doesn't make a noise when they hit him, because Haneul never tells on them, because he's trying to be a good human to reach eternal life. It's the first night Haneul sobs himself to sleep.

At the age of sixteen nothing seemed to get better for the human servant. The orphanage closed due to lack of funds and Haneul found himself enrolled in an on the job training foster care system of sorts. Not an adult yet, but a human servant who needed to learn their place in the world, Haneul made his way to live in a manor. The Master of the house would get a paycheck for housing and feeding a new mouth, for having their staff educate the young boy on the proper way to behave.Haneul spends all his time in the kitchen. He loves cooking it helps him take his mind off the fact that he had no friends, that he has no freedom, that he has no home. Speed is his enemy though, the stress of the kitchen atmosphere is too much for the little human. All the noise, the yelling, the running around, the chaos... It causes him to accidently hurt himself with careless burns and cuts. His anxiety and fear is clear on his face when thrown into the middle of it all. Haneul isn't anywhere near to cutting it. He gets shoved in the corner where he can peal vegetables or kneed dough away from everyone else so he can't fuck anything up.It's his third home where he finally founds someone else who is in his corner. They are a human laborer too, that seems to actually care of him, patching him up whenever he gets hurt, encouraging him to do his best. He secretly starts to practice his cooking in the middle of the night. It's not long before he gets caught by the Young Master of the house. Expecting to be scolded and kicked out of the manor he's surprised when the Young Master is sweet to him. There's a glimmer in their eye that Haneul can't place, but from then on he was always visited by the Young Master in the kitchen. He would get close to Haneul and say such sweet things. It's the middle of the night and the small 18 year old human is making homemade pasta when he receives his first kiss. The Young Master promises him the world. His own living quarters with a fully stocked kitchen that is his and only his. That he would be cooking whatever he wants feeding himself and the Young Master. He doesn't have to worry about the stress and anxiety of a commercial kitchen. Just the idea of that makes him smile and Haneul is falling for the Young Master and his empty promises.Spending the night together, that's the last Haneul sees of the Young Master. The Young Master no longer comes to see him in the kitchen, Haneul hasn't heard anything about being purchased yet even if he's of age. There's no talk of him moving to private quarters or getting his own kitchen, Haneul is left feeling empty and feeling deceived. His birthday passes without any fuss. The human was naïve and easily fell for lies, fell for temptation, he starts to worry about his place in heaven. For the first time in his life, Haneul is a sinner and it's the second night he sobs himself to sleep, afraid that his life and afterlife will just be torment.Haneul needs to reconnect with God with nature, he needs redemption from his sins. He's not sure how to save his soul, but at least the serene woods seem to calm him. Whenever he can escape he does so in this little meadow. It just feels right to be there, he feels connected with life, he feels like he belongs.

From Boy to Bunny

Trigger Warnings: Hit and Run, Near Death, Blood, and DeathThere was nothing special about today, nothing fantastic about the weather, Haneul thought it would be a normal day. Starting the day by running out to the bus with a piece of toast in his mouth Haneul had no idea that today would actually change him forever.Haneul was taking the bus out to his favorite spot. It was where he could just escape from everything. A little clearing in the middle of a wooded area, it was where he could get away from the busy life of the city, a place where he can relax, study, draw, or clear his head. Staring out the window of the bus he munches on his toast and wiggles his feet as he can’t wait to just be alone. As an introvert his alone time was precious to him. He’s never seen anyone get on or off this bus stop by the woods except for him. He’s happy about that as he doesn’t have to worry about anyone following him, finding his safe space, and ruining it. He plans to spend the whole day there, and he does. As dusk starts to fall the young man makes his way out of the woods and back to the road. That’s when he spots a small bunny on the road, even in the low light Haneul could see how cute the bunny was. He was going to see if he could approach the bunny without scaring it, but suddenly he hears a speeding car. He doesn’t see any headlights and starts to panic as the bunny doesn’t move. Clearly there was a reckless driver coming, rushing into the road he tries to outrun the car and save the bunny, but he’s not fast enough.Without headlights the car doesn’t see him in the road, especially when Haneul moves down to save the bunny. There’s a big THUMP, but the car keeps moving in fact, the car speeds up. Pain. Haneul feels pain, he’s cold, he feels wet, when he tries to gasp for air it feels like he’s drowning.

There’s no relief of air in his lungs. He was struggling, this was the end. What about the bunny? He feels a soft body nuzzling against his face and he feels some sort of relief. He was at least able to save the bunny. Why won’t it leave though? Shouldn’t the bunny be far gone by now? In the safety of the woods?“Do you want to live child?”Was this the voice of God? The young man looks up to see the blurry face of a man standing above him. There’s no bright white light, no feeling of comfort, no pain relief. It can’t be God. Haneul struggles to speak as blood fills his lungs, but the desperate look in his eyes and the slight nod of his head is all the man above him needs for an answer. His vision starts to black out, the black edges moving towards the middle, the man’s blurry face is the last thing the human boy sees. His ears just barely register what the strange man is saying.“Bound together you two shall be, as one saves a life, so does the other.”Haneul has a difficult time adjusting to his new role in life as a familiar. His body was no longer just 'Haneul' he now shared it with the bunny he saved. It was hard to wrap his mind around his transformation and with it the change in his physical appearance and his personality. It's the subtle changes that drive him wild and cause stress. Everything has changed and the inner turmoil has him wondering if he shouldn't have agreed to the Witch saving his life. The Witch was patient though, kind, and cared for his familiar more than Haneul would ever comprehend. No matter how many times the Tùzǐ would destroy their items in stress, or gnaw on an item of the mages to keep his teeth from hurting and growing, or even how often the Tùzǐ would panic and bite, claw, and struggle against the Witch, he was still loved, cared for, and given reassurance. The Witch wouldn't dare just let him navigate life on his own. The Witch was here to guide Haneul on their new life journey.
